Terms of Use
This document sets out the conditions under which academia.sh is offered. By using the site you accept these terms.
1. Scope
These terms cover every page published under the academia.sh domain. In this document
“we” refers to academia.sh as publisher, and “you” refers to the person using the site.
If you do not accept these terms, please do not use the site.
2. Nature of the service
academia.sh is an open education platform. All educational content is free of charge and open to everyone; reading a lesson, searching, and tracking your progress in your own browser require no registration, account, or subscription. No advertising is shown and no revenue is derived from user data. Visit measurement runs only if you consent to it; the Cookie Policy has the details.
Published content is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 (see §3). That licence is irrevocable: a text published today stays free whatever happens later.
Paid tier. A paid subscription (Pro) is planned for some of the tools around the content: course exams, a completion certificate, an AI study assistant, and cross-device sync. Those tools cost money because they require a server; nothing that can run on your own device is behind a payment.
As of today no sale is open: the site takes no payment, creates no subscription, and processes no personal data for that purpose. Pages marked “Pro” are sample views showing how the tool will look. When sales open, the subscription relationship will be governed by a separate distance-selling contract and pre-information form in addition to these terms, and those documents will be announced on this page before they take effect.
No lesson URL is ever placed behind the paid tier.
The site is published statically and provided on an “as is” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, a fixed publication schedule, or that any particular page will remain online. Pages may be updated, merged, or withdrawn.
3. Content licence
The educational content on this site is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) licence. This licence grants you the right to:
- copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format,
- create derivative works from it,
- use it for commercial purposes.
Two obligations follow:
- Attribution: you must credit the source. An adequate attribution names the work,
the address
academia.sh, and the licence. For example: “Vector Spaces — academia.sh, CC BY-SA 4.0”. - ShareAlike: if you distribute a work derived from this content, you must license it under CC BY-SA 4.0 as well.
Full licence text: creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/
The source code of the site is offered separately under the MIT Licence. The name “academia.sh” and the site’s visual identity fall outside both licences; do not present a derivative work in a way that suggests it was produced or endorsed by academia.sh.
4. Purpose of the content
The content is educational. No page substitutes for professional advice; do not base medical, legal, financial, or engineering decisions on these texts alone.
Content is prepared carefully and passes editorial review, yet errors, omissions, and outdated statements remain possible. You can report anything you find through the address on the Contact page.
5. Acceptable use
While using the site, you are expected to refrain from:
- automated access that places a disproportionate load on the server (aggressive crawling, continuous request loops);
- attempts against the security or integrity of the site;
- republishing the content while concealing its source or disregarding the licence terms;
- using the academia.sh name in a way that implies an official association.
If you need bulk access for teaching or research, write to us first and we will agree on a reasonable approach.
6. Third-party links
Pages may link to external resources. We have no control over the content, privacy practices, or availability of those resources; responsibility rests with their owners.
7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The content and the site are provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, and freedom from error are not warranted.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, academia.sh is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the site. This limitation does not cover wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
8. Changes
These terms may be updated. The current version is always published at this address, and the date at the top of the page indicates the most recent change. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Türkiye. The courts and enforcement offices of the Republic of Türkiye have jurisdiction over disputes. Mandatory jurisdiction rules arising from consumer legislation are reserved.
10. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to the address on the Contact page.
